blasted a dog in the forest today

My wife and I were coming back from Bryan this morning, took 3090 and the forest. about halfway through the forest we came up on one of the groups of homes along 149, we were following a pickup truck doing about 65ish. As we passed a house suddenly a large dog with a mottled black/brown/white coat came out of nowhere. We probably had 3 bikelengths of warning, just enough for me to swerve a little to the left and open the throttle. Of course I was not exactly in the powerband in 6th gear and doing 65 or so.

Luckily for us it was just enough to not nail the dog on its suicide mission to go for my front tire. Instead my foot and footpeg blasted it in the side of the head, and my wife followed up with a kick that landed somewhere between its shoulder and the side of its head.

I didn't slow down, just looked in the mirror and saw the dog fleeing back to its yard. A few miles down the road we pulled off. I told my wife we didn't pull over there because I would be too tempted to go and shoot the owner of the dog, not just for nearly killing us, but also for their lack of regard for their dog. Whatever the dog was it had herding/hunting instinct, and was not secured.

I feel super lucky to have not crashed, and I hope the dog has learned enough to NOT chase motorcycles anymore.

Just cruising, with the wife on the back I take it nice and easy, plus I can sometimes manage 50+ mpg on my cbr doing that.

i totally demolished a huge opossum in my van a few days ago. not quite as thrilling as on a bike, but still.....

glad yall are ok. im betting you are talking about the section not far out of town, where they sometimes have a "this is not daytona" sign? i have seen a few dogs there

the bigger problem, i think are the cyclists. horry sheet.
