sprocket question

if a bike has sprockets on it to make it accel faster, does that fraud the odometer reading? and if so, how much in what way?

let's see...wheel now travels more distance per one revolution of the sprocket...so i would assume now you will increase the odometer reading...and also your spedometer will read that you are actually going faster...

i may be totally off base...

Yes, if you gear it down for better acceleration, your speedo will be further off than it already is. Just about all bikes come w/ a factory error of 5-10%. It will be worse w/ re-gearing. Your bike will read faster than you are really going. Also, your odometer will put more miles on it than your're really riding...

If it is important for you to have it read correctly, you can verfiy your speed w/ a GPS, or a cop w/ a radar, or find one of those road-side radar speed signs, then add a speedo-healer if they make one for your bike.

Normally the speedo is off between bout 5%-15% stock from the factory already. when u go up in the rear or down on the front sprocket u will make the speedo off moreso. I think my stock FZ1 was off bout 8% then when i went up 3 on the rear i think it went up bout 12%.
U will not be going as fast as it says.
I use a "speedohealer" and then verified by using a portable GPS to check how accurate i have the speedohealer.
same with the busa. it was off pretty much so i have both sprockets differant and had to put on the speedo healer.
also remember that u will be putting on more miles than u actually are.
