Troof.

When I walked off the lot with my car they never asked me for a lick of ID or insurance. Only had to have it when I actually drove off the lot. They didn't check it at all. They just asked if I had it or not.

Personally, I would support the requirement of the intermediate course as well, within the first year of getting a license, but at least, requiring a license to buy a bike.
We as a Motorcycle Community should have the cojones to fight against any such government intrusion.

Most Motorcyclist's are ANTI-Government. We ride because of freedom.

I believe people should be responsible for their own actions, and not live in a "Nanny State".

LET THEM DIE.
Since the law doesn't allow me to shoot people for being idiots, then the government should be involved.

I don't want some idiot crashing into me because he doesn't know what he's doing.

Purchasing a motorcycle is no risk to anyone. Riding said motorcycle without any knowledge or training on it is potentially a risk. There are already laws that say you cannot ride a motorcycle without an M endorsement which you cannot get without completing an MSF course. The applicable laws are already in place. We don't need government going further and telling us what we can and cannot buy with our money.

You can't legislate idiocy. If you think you can, then you're a bigger idiot than the ones you fear.

That's an excellent idea. Do you split them up into pairs, noob following an experienced rider?

It does allow you to shoot them for some things though - which is as it should be. Thinking they're stupid is too subjective. Ventilating them because they want your property on the other hand is perfectly OK.

I don't want that either, but it is going to happen. No law could prevent it.

You cannot make a law forcing people to not be stupid.

You can most certainly legislate idiocy - we do it every day.

On the other hand, legislating idiocy out of existence is pretty difficult.

Basically hurts the law abiding more.
So doing away with state inspection will make you safer? Do buddies lend bikes to unlicensed riders? So instead of harsh penalties for unlawfulness, you'd rather have a brand new unlicensed rider heading towards you at 60+ on a two lane country road?

So required MSF and licensing for bikes doesn't have any impact on safety whatsoever?

I said nothing of the sort. I said no law is going to prevent an idiot from crashing into you because he has no idea what he's doing.

Better question - does it make you less safe?

Some states have done away with state inspections for the simple reason that the inspection process does nothing but put a burden upon tax payers for no benefit whatsoever.

What law is going to actually stop that from happening?

What is your argument for making it illegal to purchase a motorcycle without a valid license?

Where is the State of Texas granted such authority?
