I'm out in Cali and thinking of picking one up to enjoy the local canyon roads

Specific issues to look for ?

Eh. Fair reliability, expensive to fix, difficult to find parts for. Look for a DR650, XL650 or KLR650 instead.

But I want a tard!

I might just end up shipping the sv...

Street bikes out here are overpriced like a ! Maybe I'll just ship the SV out but I'm worried about emissions and such. Whatcha thunk Patrick?

Ride it and go from there. I've have 2,000 miles on my Husky and haven't had any problems. Parts are easy to find if you know where to look and if you are in Cali then you are where you should look. Uptite Husky and Motoexotica have got almost every part in stock. Maintenance on the Husky is a piece of cake. I can change the oil and adjust the valves in 30 minutes.

If you are staying out there, I don't think you will want the SV cause it likely won't pass emissions (at least I think so). I know the SV650 has a cali specific model

Pretty much ANY bike has a stupid model to meet that shitholes strict emissions laws.

I own 2 Husky's and so far they have been great bikes. Parts aren't as hard to find as you would think. Mail Order baby!!!!
Their motards are good bikes

Parts are actually easy to find. My bike was damaged during shipping plus I wanted some accessories and I had to find the following parts:

clutch cable
plastics
throttle cable
brake caliper
fork tube
miscellaneous hardware
sprockets
axle blocks with built in sliders
front fork sliders
an O2 sensor plug
slave cylinder piston
Husky decals

I made one phone call to Hall's Cycles and everything was at my doorstep in 48 hours except for the brake caliper. Houston Superbikes had it in stock and they were doing some of the repairs. I couldn't even get an engine cover for my Honda that fast.
