Bike's Impounded, Need to borrow Ramp and Straps

Hey guys I really need to borrow a ramp and some straps to get my bike outta jail. Already got the truck, just need gear to load and tow the bike.

In case you're wondering- no, the bike is not road worthy. I think the water pump went out, she overheats incredibly fast. Anybody that can loan me the equipment would be much appreciated, feel free to take a ride if you want but i'll plan on returning your stuff today either way.

thanks

Make sure the cap is holding pressure first. It will overheat quickly if not.

moot point now. I never found the money or time to get the title transfer so the impound wont release the vehicle. They'll hold it for thirty days then auction it off and theres not a thing I can do about it.

That bike was the only pleasure i took out of life and now its gone for good.

Back in the day, say i wanted to buy a horse. I give you handful of cash, u give me the reigns, and the horse became mine. No agency thought I owed them a dime just for the right to say anything was mine. When did the world turn to ?

whaaa. Should have handled your business. If you didn't have the cash to register the bike and get the title - you shouldn't have bought it. Total cost of ownership.

Hard break, but hopefully you won't repeat the same mistake and expect different results.

I must be gettin' soft in my old age...
I was gonna say that but I decided to be nice.
Title issues, frequently non-transferral of title, are the number one hassles when buying a used bike.

The sad part is, it is the State is who is causing it. When they started charging the "presumptive value" tax, people just stopped transferring titles. It's a big pain in the when your trying to buy it but I guess it's not as bad as losing your bike because it got towed...

Yeah, but the presumptive value tax came about from people buying vehicles for $5, or so they would have the taxman believe.

Well, I really did pay $5... I swear!

The question I have is what if you are buying a basket case?
With cars you don't really see that happening but with bikes it happens fairly often. You could, for example, buy a wrecked 5 year old bike for say $500 but the book says the presumptive value is $5,000.
How do they deal with that?

Back when my bike got impounded and i wentto get it they released the bike to me while title was still under previous owners name. I had title in my hand and insurance in my name and apparently that's all that was needed.... this is back in Jan of 2010...

Seems like there is more to the story.. why was it impounded, lack of insurance or M stamp?

Never understood why people are so lax in transferring the title.. if I buy a vehicle I want it in MY name as soon as possible.

Im going to have to go with this guy, no reason a normal impound lot should want to see a title... insurance on the bike, and the ticket would show you were in possession. of course if you were stopped with a suspended license, they wont let you take it regardless. is it at a police impound? why was it impounded?

I thought OP had an overheating issue left the bike on the side of the road too long so it got towed away, finally tracked it down but now they won't let him have it back. :shrugs:

Anyway sorry for you loss man. Sucks there prolly going to charge you tow cost and impound lot fee for each day it was there.

Go title it in your name, pay the taxes and title transfer fees, then go get it.
