OK so she has the basics down.... just needs to get some seat time without all the distractions.

It's like everyone said, it takes time. I would make it a point to get her out somewhere. I used to just stay on the feeder and practice banging through the gears to feel more comfortable around traffic

I had no problem with this when i started so i have a hard time relating and giving advice other than just 'try to relax and have fun' and practical riding advice. She rides just fine, even does real good on some of the tight practice turns and drills i put her though but she hasnt really got up any speed on the bike and is just nervous on the streets in our neighborhood.. stays tense, has a hard time relaxing. ace'd all the written tests.
Skid, took me to an unfinished neighborhood. The streets are all set up but no houses (ergo traffic).. I played around with my stops and corners, speed, shifting...ect. We did this for about a week and then the bike night guys kept the meeting spots close for me for a week or two.

A lot of neighborhood streets and parking lot practice.

Then get her comfortable with turns by doing figure eights.

I lost (and continue to lose) my newb nerves by exposure Riding in several layers of Houston traffic will fix her right up...HOV lanes are for cruisers!

I agree with the majority. It will take time. If you can get a trailer, maybe take her out into the country away from heavy traffic but with enough other vehicles that she can the feel of others around her. When she's ready, she'll start going more places.

I stayed in the neighborhood for a week or so then slowly added more time on surface streets into the mix. eventually built myself up to traveling on the freeways

I was the same way , but l learned to relax with each time I rode. the more she ride the better she will get. I would ride around on the roads around my house. After awhile i went further and further away from home. But I still get alittle nervous.
