That is a great idea, as long as we know whats going on then it should be alright, i remember 2 years ago someone did that without letting us know and needless to say everybody freaked out at that corner

Thanks man. I noticed that if I just Google "USD vs CRC" it gives me the most updated exchange..that fluctuates A LOT!

use google as a reference but obviously once you get to San Jose, CR the local rates are going to be very different to what is published in yahoo or google.

If you are taking 100 usd bills then ask the bank what series are they taking just to make sure, the last time i was there all the 100 usd bills that started with "J, CD or BD" were not taken by anybody (hotels, casinos, exchange houses)

I'd just use credit cards so you don't have to deal with exchange

That's why you call your credit card company and ask questions. Mine didn't and it saved me time and money

Yes, the only 2 that are commission free is cc issued by American Express and Chase Premier, otherwise even ATM withdraws are charges $5 plus your local fee. I would only use CC at the hotels but for store purchases its is much safer to pay with cash.

It is if you get a good exchange rate. Don't think they're not making any money off you for that service
