Gixxer was the first ""R"" bike released for mass consumption back in '85 so it lodged itself in the public conciousness as THE R bike. 15 years later, and they just flat out outsell everything in the states. Therefore, the used market is depressed making it easy to purchase one. So really its a combo of being the go-to bike........in part because of the history and in part because suzuki continues to spit out bikes with flashy paintjobs, as well as there being plentiful, cheap units on the used market. This makes a squid's choice relatively easy, and you end up seeing more squids on gixxers than other bikes.

I think that should give you an idea...

It's the most common for this type of shenanigans.

I think it has something to do with Suzuki's domination of AMA racing ove the last ten years. Between 1999 and 2009 Suzuki won 10 Superbike championships - they only lost ONE. That's domination. When the GSX-R1000 came out there was nothing that could touch it (for the price).

Suzuki built a mytique around the GSX-R series through their race results that was almost legendary and the squids followed, wanting the best and fastest.

With matched riders the 750 will likely walk the 636 all day.

Suz

Pretty impressive I have to say. There's a definite truth to the saying, "win on Sunday, sell on Monday."

Squids want to be able to say they have the fastest X, and relying on race results to substantiate that claim would lead you to Suzuki.

You give too much credit on only one racing group...........what about WSBK and Moto GP? Where is Suzuki on top of anything else but AMA?

Doesn't matter, most Americans care very little about AMA and even less abut WSBK and motogp. I'd even wager to say that most RIDERS don't even care. However, if you stopped 100 people on the street that had a desire to own a sportbike, just as many would have heard of Mat Mladin (who has been with suzuki FOREVER) as Valentino Rossi (who has raced for Aprilia, Honda, Yamaha, and Ducati).

There's a very strong tie between Mat Mladin, GSXR, and winning in this country.

yup. we're talking about squids. They know little about racing but the reputation made within American racing circles transcends those circles.
