Thinking about a track bike

Ok, I dont know what to get, I like the little 125's but I dont know if its a beginner or advanced bike. I could just turn my 600 in to a track/race bike, but was just wondering. Are the 125 2 strokes good for beginner motorcycle racers? I have plenty of track exp. just not on a motorcycle. give me some good starter bikes for track days and racing.

They are advanced.......more so than a 600 i would say. if you compare cc/hp to price the 125 costs way more and the 125 is more time consumming. You have to buy lots of spares for races...and more maintanance than the 600.If you are serious about it.........go for 125 you will learn more about bikes and more about skills than just raw power. You have two choices rs125 or tz125 and you prolly wont get a new one unless you want to spend some jack.

Thanks for the reply, I am no stranger to 2 strokes( i actually like tinkering with them, and have more exp. with doing my own top ends, clutch, jetting, emulsion tubes, etc.....I was just curious because they are a smaller bike. What class does the 125's run in? I'm not dead set on the 125, just really really curious.

Get an old 600. Something with easy to find parts and that you won't mind crashing.

Bet you didn't argue with that. Reminds me of my conversation.

Wife: "You're gonna tear up your street bike. You should get a bike for the track"
You: "Ummm, Why didn't I think of that. Good idea, Honey."

2 stroke and trackdays will eventually = a NASTY highside, i'd stay away from any of those until you have the proper exp. to ride those.. .02

Kind of off topic, but has anyone ever ventured the idea of a Motohouston race team? Lots of racers/wantabe racers on the board, and possibly a lot of people the would get involved?

i'd be interested in creating a mini GP endurance race team as the big bikes are to expensive for me to race.

Just a thought, lots of different skill levels so it might be possible to run several different classes with everyone sharing the costs? Just a thought and I would be interested in getting involved.......

This season is about done........we'd need to do some homework, I have no idea the costs. Probably much more expensive to be competitive then to just have fun?
