There's a lot of nice areas, like any big city it's got it's problems. The closer you get to downtown the uglier it get's in my opinion. A lot more commercial stuff, wharehouses and so on.

actually i was looking at the cost of living and it iddn't seem that high avg rent was around 600 bucks for a 1 bedroom when i looked it up this morning three bed room was like a little over a 1000 so not much more than here. sure we would live in a house though. i told my wife i would like to spend most of the time in astoria though as i've been there before for like 2 days and loved it. it's not far from portland at all kind of a like a trip to victoria. heck way closer when i think about it.

Right! LA is a walk in the park for most Houstonians. I tried to describe LA to someone before as a huge Austin. A bunch of fashionable music weirdo types hanging around. Just be yourself and nobody gives a flop about what you are doing.

Rediculous money but not exactly a safe job either.

Heard Portland described as having a Euro kind of thing going on the last time I was there. I guess that is a good way to describe it. Definetly a good place to invest in real estate due to the city building ordinances.

I like Maui too but it's too small. As for the cost of living, you're right... we'll just have to live a much simpler life.

There can be a lot of prejudice at times in Hawaii, very tolerant of somethings though. When I lived there the military guy's had a hard time of it......
Kids from the mainland had a tough time of it too.......
