Haggling on new bikes

Well, it's now time for me to move up and I am thinking of getting a brand new bike. Thing is, this will also be the first time I buy a new bike. So.... what's a fair price to haggle down from MSRP? I want to get a Yamaha V-Star 650 custom, but I cannot find any info on invoice price (unlike buying a car). MSRP is 5,899, Yamaha is offering $300 cash back, so 5,599. What should be the target price I should aim for? Please help out a noob

That's what I was thinking, so I thought I'd ask before going to Houston Yamaha and start asking for $1000 off, etc :icon_bigg

So MSRP as OTD about right? Thnx!

Ask for the price to be knocked down.
THEY CAN NEGOTIATE.

There is not much room for it but the price can be lowered.

You will struggle to get ANY new bike reduced in sale price - it's NOt like buying a car at all! BUT where you can win is on upgrades / clothing. eg - helmets, gloves or jacket. Have him push in any aftermarket items you think you might want in future. Other than that I don't know what else!

Some bike can sell quicker than the others. I can tell you that you won't get much less fm Houston Yamaha. Because they are . You may also try Hurst Yamaha off I-10 close to Grand Parkway. I would gotten a better deal if I got my R1 fm them.

lowest bike prices in the country, www.lakehillmotors.com honda an yammy, $5100-5200 for your 650 custom. + taxes in your home state.

see how close your dealership can come to the price. i know alot of people who drive there to P/U a bike there......no BS just a good deal.

and sine your buying the "lowest" priced bike, there isn't alot of room to nego.

Wow, that's a really good price! I stopped by Houston Yamaha and they want $5,799 for it. They kept pushing me to get a 1100, though. I dont think I am that skilled yet, been only over half-a-year after I've gone thru MSF and practicing on a GZ250 But looks like it's either Hurst Yamaha or a road trip I go! :icon_bigg

Also, don't let them charge your for dumb like the gas cap or paint sealant. I really hate it when they try to charge for advertising fees. Tell them you didn't get roped in by their radio commercials or website.

If you can get it at MSRP then you did good. Post pix when you get it.

(yes, at Stubbs they wanted an additional 35 dollars for my fck'n gas cap!)

anyways, shop your bike of choice through various dealers and keep good notes on what they offer and what goodies they are throwing in for what price and who you spoke with. Review the notes and be sure to write all mods and freebies they are throwing in.
helps to keep track of stuff and also when you sit down and say so and so will do this for this price, what can you do?

for what it's worth. when i was looking at a new FZ1. could not find a place in texas or oklahoma that would come off the msrp. They were HOT bikes then. I called out of state and bought the same bike in alabama for $1500 UNDER msrp.
out the door. i then had to pay the taxes here but still worth the drive for me to go out of state.
Seems that birmingham area is a good place for bikes.
I know that my busa was bought new from previous owner for i think $2500 sticker in chicago area.
If u have no problems driving i would look outa state.
U can start by looking at NEW ones on e-bay and cycle trader. will give u an idea of what dealers are selling at discounts.

heres an 07 for $5100 in Mississippi

I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier, I know where an 05 (or maybe 06) 650 vstar is right now for 3600, still looks showroom and has less than 4k miles.

The phone number is 281 328 2592, it's a body shop and they will be open at 8 monday, it belongs to a customer who is friends with the owner and the owner is letting him park it outside his shop to help sell it. He has 4,500 on the sticker, and in casual conversation the owner of the shop mentioned to me that he turned down 3500 cash but would take 3600.

If you pm me your phone number I can call you about it monday (if you want) and txt you some pictures from my phone. Or you can just call the sh op too, good luck with it, it really does look showroom
