Exclamation Important boot question!

I recently bought some A* SMX-5s to go with some new track leathers that i have.

without the leathers on, the SMX zips up just fine. the boot overall is a little bit snug, but wearable.

however, its a nightmare trying to frigging zip the things up over the leg of the leathers. it does zip up eventually, but its like fighting a got-dammed wolverine.

I've heard that even if I go a size up that it may not fix the problem. what do i do? perhaps i can pull a Rossi, and wear the leg over the boot?

help?

How long are your leathers? Do they cover your ankles? I wear SMX-5s with leathers and A-star knee pads under them.

I have the same boots and with proper fitting leathers you shouldn't have a problem. Either you just have cankles or your leathers are too big. The leathers should be rather snug around the ankle.

If your leathers go all the way to your ankles they may be too long

I had the same problem with the zipper being extremely hard to pull up, but I fought with it and eventually ended up picking up Sidi Vertigo Airs

I'm not familiar with that boot. But if you go with a boot that has an adjustable calf (such as the SIDI), you won't have that problem

True. Should come up about 4" above the ankle bone on the side of your leg.

240, just under 6'1. I wear usually 12.5 to 13 shoe. and the SMX is a 47 (12us)

its a little narrow. but i has plenty of toe room.

Athletic + some chubbieness type build (think football player)

well, since there are other people out there who do it..i may consider that route..but i guess it depends on the type of leathers you have too..my J Rockets have the stretchy mesh style lower ankle portion.

Yo bryan, i have the same boots.... The problem is that alpinestars wants you to stick to their brand as far as leather suits and boots go, if you try on an alpinestars suit might solve your problem, most of their suits are really snug just above the ankles i guess to help to ease your boots on.

I don't think that's true. I have two different one piece leather race suits and neither one is an A* and I have no problems zipping the boots. Mine fit just right for my feet. He may just have large calves or the leathers are too long. My leathers stop about midway between my ankles and calves.

Try raising a bit how far down into the boot the leathers go.

My leathers stop about 1 inch above my ankles so i have no problem wearing my boots.

There's the problem. You are a big dude. If you go to far outside the 5' 10" 180 lb average then you run into fitment problems. Probably have to try another brand of pants or boots. I have the same problem but I'm at the other end of the spectrum. Scrawny.

I'll try that. perhaps i can just leave the leg a tad unzipped to give more clearance.

well, the suit is great, i MAY change out the boots but, i'd rather stay with the frugal route..I've already invested all this money on the gear.

FWIW the boots are just fine when not being zipped over leathers.
