Question Velocity stacks order

Once you take off the air box you are looking directly down at the velocity stacks.

Here is my question.

What order are the velocity stacks supposed to go? Two are taller than the other two.

The bike is a 96 vfr 750.

I have them on the bike now but I fear I just put them in randomly and I wasn't aware there was an order when I took them out.

That's what I was thinking but they are set up in a perfect square. So from the front wheel towards the back, the taller go first then the shorter right?

You want balanced symmetry. Let me explain. The stacks change the amount of air in the combustion chamber at different RPM. This makes different forces on different pistons. This can lead to imbalance and vibration if not set up correctly. On an inline four the two center pistons balance each other and the outer balance themselves. On a V-twin you have only one option. On a V4 think of the corners of your square the top left balances the bottom right and the top right the bottom left. kinda like this:

A-----B
-ooooo-
-ooooo-
B-----A

I don't have direct experience on velocity stacks on a bike (my 350 Chevy small block had cross planes balanced like I stated only for a V8). So before you go taking my advice on this engine get someone to confirm this.

Makes total sense. I will have to take off the tank and such again anyway. Carbs need fine tuning and I'm sure I put the stacks in wrong.

Will post back later with results

Short in front long in back. Some early service manuals were incorrect and showed them diagonally opposed.

This is true everything else is boogus 'cause I'm a dumbass. My 350 had long runners to both fronts and both rear pistons and short runners to the four centers (went and looked at a pic).
