Furlough Time

Boss called 4 of us in today and said that March would be a very slow month and that each of us would have to take a mandatory 1 week furlough, but only one ata time. Me and two of my buds are going to Big Bend towards the end of March. Weather should be nice by then.

Yeah, but that'd be the .

I hate forced time off. Had to do it last year. Took a full week of my vacation.

It's an attempt to keep someone without a layoff. It's like someone not being there . It's the first step before a layoff. This will give then at least a month. It really depends how many people are in the rotation.

I got a week of furlough time, but they said it was a 10% pay cut for 10 weeks and 5 'paid' days of vacation.. equal to one week without pay. They told us a week into the pay period that it included that pay period ie the previous week. Which is actually illegal (cant retroactively change pay for time already worked), so they just sent an email today saying we're getting the 10% for the week as a separate check.

This is a company with 90,000 employees who reported having 2.6b cash on hand last year.

However I'm going to take my week of furlough and go ride deals gap or something.

Thanks for the notes of encouragement and the ones we dread to hear. It will be an unpaid furlough, so I can just do as I please. And I will. I figure 2 days to Study Butte, 3 days to ride the River Road and enjoy Terlingua's offerings, then 2 days back. That leaves about one day to do laundry, clean up the bike, and chill. The only thing that could screw up this good thing would be for the boss to change his mind about the furlough. We went through this two years ago and I got another job for a week. Worked my off and got paid good for it. Knew it would happen again, so I put a little away each month to be able to afford not working for a week. We have just over 350 employees at our location, but only certain disciplines have to go through this. Oh well, I'll just make more lemonade.
