Unhappy Rider Downed! 2/20/2011

S. E. Cruise today, was excellent. There was a great turn out of people that I hope to see and ride with again. The Morning started off nice and smooth with beautiful weather. Around noon, 12:00 2/20/2011, myself along with another rider was downed due to the negligence of one "Carlos" (LP: "-ZY644"?).

On approach of a corner, I started to slow down, and was abruptly cut off. The driver obviously did not recognize the corner ahead and was traveling at too high of an entry speed. He locked up the rear tire while passing me and turned his bike sideways in front of me. I was forced to lock up my tires to avoid T-boning the rider. Both of us were ejected off the road and into the grassy ditches.

I want to thank everyone that checked to make sure that I was okay, and that helped me get my bike out and some what running. I would also like to specially thank the people that rode slow with me on the way home.

Im looking at somewhere near 1,300 dollars in damages. And since the other rider refused to show me his insurance and gave me a false number, and then left the scene. All I can rely on is once again the help of the other members. Please PM me with any details or photographs.

I'll post pictures later tonight.

Im so thankful and incredably lucky to be uninjured, despite minor cuts and bruises. I want to thank you all in advance. And while Im not able to ride, everyone else needs to remember to be safe, and abide by cruise rules!

Ok... you should never be 'forced to lock up your tires', all that means is that you applied too much brake.

Should have called the cops on the scene and reported a hit-n-run, presuming there was contact, if there wasn't I hope they'll still do something for you..probably need witness's statements to get any action out of em.

Good luck though and glad it wasn't worse.

Dang dude. I woulda been T-boning his face with my fist if he didn't give me his insurance.
What a muncher.
Glad you're okay.
Turn it in to your insurance and let them deal with collecting from the other guy.

Was this someone on the ride with you? Or some other chump jumping in on the pack making his way up to the front? Did he actually go down or just lock you up? Did you get a plate #, and was it HIS bike? Inquiring minds want to know. Glad you are okay and where able to ride home, thanks to the people tagging along at a slower pace to ensure your safe arrival.

Man, without having made contact and with no police report I seriously doubt you'll ever see a penny out of his insurance.

He was not present at the beginning of the cruise. I'm pretty sure he jumped in the pack. I don't want to sound prejudice, but he was a latino male, and could be very probable that he didn't have insurance.

My friend and I were talking about this just last night regarding another weekly ride organized here on MH. I went on a great ride yesterday and besides 1 new rider, I knew everyone on it and had a strong level of trust with everyone. It's so important for so many reasons, but this thread is another reason I didn't think about. Not directed to you OP as you already said this rider joined in mid-ride, but just a caution for all of us.

As for the OP, I don't think you can entirely blame this on another ride. It sounds to me more like an accident - things happen. Regardless, glad to hear you are ok and hope you make the best of the situation.

Sorry to hear.. it's one reason why I don't go on rides w/strangers. You never know their skill level going into a turn which can screw you up big time.

edit: i had something similar happen to me w/someone off of this forum on a ride. we side swiped each other but i wasn't a douchebag and actually gave him my insurance information.

Glad you're ok to start.

Second, fully agree to what Ormand said. You need to set ground rules and explain to everyone you ride with you want space, or let them pass. As for the new rider, I do apologize for that but I took the initiative to ride w him so the group wouldnt be effected by his experience.

I was told once and will continue to perform it in such a situation when I was hit and run from a truck. The other party needs to be detained at 'any means necessary.' If someone hits me from neglect I wouldnt let them out of my sight. I'd hold their key, write down a vin number, take a pic of them w my phone, take a license number... have no fury cuz I carry insurance, that's what it is for.

When the mercedes hit me the bike landed on the right side of the road. I rolled away and tried to crawl to the center of the road to block the car incase it tried to run(dont ever do that... lol)

These group rides are getting out of hand with no rider meetings, wide ranges of experience, and lack of leadership from ride leaders.

Glad to hear your okay though. Good luck with the bike.

Not to say you deserved what happened to you, but that attitude won't help you. Suck it up and we all hope you learned something from this.
