handgun ownership-private sale?

My brother has a semi automatic pistol and he wants some cash so he is selling it to me. My other brother bought it for him when he had a C&R license so its under his name in his logbook but his C&R expired.
I checked online and as best as I can find out private sales of firearms are unrestricted, so I don't need a license or need to register the firearm or anything in TX, right?
I just wanna just it for target practice and home protection.

private sale is perfectly legal, i just sold a rifle on craigslist.

it would be a good idea to get a notarized bill of sale. just a safe thing to do.

yep, all you need is a notarized bill of sale. it will save your brother's if anything should happen with you and the gun. as long as the seller is not a licensed gun/rifle dealer, than no background check is necessary. sell it to whomever you want

Yeah..I collect, trade sell firearms all the time... Texas is a non-registration state...once the gun is bought brand new it can be sold to whoever you want...although if you know that person is a felon or on some kind of legal restriction...you COULD be held liable for his/her actions...

good luck

LOL. That won't happen. None of the Glock 18s were ever produced before 1986, so per NFA rule you can't buy one legally unless you're a class 3 dealer or a LEO with department approval.

I think you need some kinda permit to own an automatic weapon of any type though even the old ones. And I don't think you can just buy a used one off someone with that permit. Its like a concealed carry permit you couldn't buy a pistol off someone with a carry permit and carry it yourself the permit covers the person not the weapon??

maybe I'm wrong.
