ContourGPS HD

I really liked my previous GoPro HD before I traded it for supermoto wheels so I was patiently waiting for funds to purchase another GoPro--until I read reviews about the Contour GPS HD.

As a competitive alternative, I gave Contour my business. With lots of options and uses, the selling points for me was the ability to track speed and location--perfect for harescrambles. First ride is Sat through the forest so we'll see how good the footage is comparative to the competitor.

Here are some basic iPhone pics:

Big- on/off switch--perfect for gloves and quick access to turning the device on and off

Removable lithium-Ion battery with a life of 2-2.5 hours in 1080p HD mode; microSD card capability up to 32GB

Sleek, small design

Any others have this?

Mounts similar to the GoPro.
An attachment slides on that is stickied to side of helmet, etc.
Other mounts as well: goggle strap, handlebar mount, . . .

MSRP is $350 for the ContourGPS model; ContourHD is $250

Does it have a waterproof casing like the GoPro?

Do you have to pay for a subscription for the GPS?

Geotagging - not just when but where an event happened.

I have the contour HD, but not the GPS version.. Love it. The 60fps 720p video quality is absolutely amazing. If you want high bitrate video though, be prepared and get a second battery.

Oh, you can also mount it on to your guns now!

Gps tracks speed, route and elevation. There's an iPhone and soon to be Droid app which use Bluetooth and let you use it as a lcd for the camera.

Although it is water resistant, it does not come with a waterproof case; that is extra at MSRP $40 and only for the ContourHD. However, rumor is the ContourGPS waterproof case comes this spring.

No subscription.
