Questions about a motorcycle

My apologize if this is not in the right place.

A friend of mine has on 05 GSX-R750 with 16,000miles on it. Yoshimira slip on exhaust, power commander and probably something else. Will let me have it for $3,000 debating on if I should get it or not. It has been layed down, I was there as the shop was putting it back together all cosmetic on one side no frame damage. Most of you already know which side (left side) It seems like he just gas and goes with this bike doubt (could be wrong) any maintenance was done other than oil changes. He does not do stunts or wheelies just hauls down the rode.

The problem was when I 1st rode it something didn't feel right. I hyped myself up thinking it was going to be SO fast and I would flip it over backwards but I hit it anyway. It felt... like an slightly unbalanced ATV felt aight down low as the RPMs increase you felt a lil more pull but I never felt overwhelmed with power as I have read nor did the weight of the bike ever bother me at anyspeed it felt like a toy i was dissapointed. Come to find out whom ever he bought it from tried to make there own slipper clutch. It rode fine (he says) all these years finally the clutches were worn. The clutch has been replaced he even got into powder coating put 2 new tires on it and LED's looking into an HID conversion next. Looks great actually glad he crashed it.

It will be my 1st bike Im looking at it like a 1st car something cheap not as good as it could be but will get you there and something I will be working on. Yes I have read alot of the talk about getting an R bike as a 1st bike as well as talk to riders and dealerships and....eh you all heard all the excuses in the book why bother.

I could be wrong about the bike, it could be in better condition than I claim its not mine I am going by what I remember him telling me and what I have seen. I know what has been replaced when the shop was rebuilding it

would need to see it and check it out to determine value, sounds like some maintence has been left out, fork fluid and seals, spark plugs and air filter all seem not to be mentioned. all were to of been done by 10k. if it was stunted then the chain and sprokets are probably worn, front rim is probably bent(just a guess). let me know ill check it out for you or bring it to patrick(Motorcycles Unlimited) and he does awesome inspections

1) have you ridden a motorcycle before this "test ride"?

2) how high were you revving it?...I4s dont have much power at lower RPM.

3) will you post pics of the damage so we have a better idea on price?

4)MSF?

It could just be the clutch slipping under power. It's a 200.00 fix if that the case.

Thanks for the warm welcomes

1. Went to Awesomen cycles a year ago, rode ATV's prior (3 wheelers, a Raptor, and some of thoes hunting 4X4 ATV I thnk one was called a grizzly) I still have my motorcycle license. Patricks name did come up in class for motorcycle inspections and Motorcycles Unlimited is a straight shot down 1960 from his house. I was going to also talk to the shop that fixed his bike, I'm cool with the tech there who did the work we all hint up a couple events together.
2. From what I remember rim was not bent, the same shop that did the repair also does his powder coating. There was a stub on the 3-tree that snapped of that prevents you from turn the handle bars all the way in either direction so that was replaced as well as the folks. New headlght, farings and gas tank(old tank was slightly scuffed and rusted from the scuff marks no dents) the whole back end was replaced foot pegs and clutch lever some how weren't touched. The radiator was changed either to a 1000cc radiator or to the 600cc radiator. I think its the radiator from the Gixxer 600 not the 1000 tho I could be wrong. Basically it looked like someone skated on the bikes leftside until it hit a wall poping rivets loose. The old headlight was just cracked like a front windshield on a car, still useful but looks like your cheap.
3. Didn't feel like a slip because I stalled it my 1st attempt, put it into 6 and went WOT rpms went up slow just as the MPH. Didn't clutch dump it because I didn't know what to expect. He said it use to lift in 3rd or 4th gear but no longer does. Granted a dry clutch from a car or truck is different than a motorcycle clutch so I could be wrong Bluewave you could be right.. Couldn't really watch the gauges while riding still green so my focus was on what's was around me as well as the sound on the bike I say no higher than 11 o'clock. I was trying to see how easy I could move the weight as well as brake and hold a tight circle I opened it up just to see how torquey it was before I tried to do tight manuevers.

4. Didn't want to post pics or give too much detail about it because its not my bike and I could be wrong about what he has done. Didn't want to hinder his sale if he deceides to sell it. He's not currently selling it but offered cash he will let it go he still wants to modify a few things to make it a show bike since he doesn't ride as much. If I see it on craigslist and find out a member on here wants it and feel as tho he left out important information I will speak up about it.

How fast were you going in 6th? I'd have to bet that the issue here is you and not the bike. You can take 1st gear past 60 mph on this bike. That bike will rev MUCH higher than any car you've ever driven. If (as your first real street motorcycle experience) a modern 750 can't scare the out of you then it's either broken or you're a psycho, lol
