Moar "that guy" quotes!

Just got this one the other day from a guy at the hardware store.

Guy looks at my helmet and asks, "So what kind of bike you got?"
(got was my first clue....)

I tell him, "I just traded for a kawasaki zx10"

Unabashedly he replies, "Oh yeah, I used to have a gixxer , but I wrecked it up on the freeway at 180 mph."

I laugh a little bit, and he says, "I've still got a scar here from it!" And he shows me his elbow, which is blemish free, and says, "Oh well I used to have a scar here from it," as he continues to eye his own elbow looking desperately for proof of his accomplishment.

I took a nice little tumble attempting to jump a ramp on my sisters first bicycle about 22 years ago. Hit some gravel approaching the ramp, and of course wiped out. Well, 22 years later I still have those scars on my elbows, and I can assure you I was nowhere near 180mph. Gotta love those stories when you hear them.

Yeah I low-sided on the freeway due to improper breaking one time at probably 70 mph and I still have scars from the impact alone. Thank for gear.

i work with a couple of those. except, when they asked what size my bike was (as they already knew it was a GSXR), and i told them it was a 600, they said "ya, i could tell. i could see it a mile a way that it was a 600". so then i ask "how so? the 600 and 750 look exactly alike?" then the conversation moves on to me saying 600 is all i really want and need, to which one of them says "well, its not about what you need, its about what it can do!" i say "they all do the same ." one guy USED to have a zx12 supposedly, mr expert rider, saying all you gotta do is twist the throttle and yada yada yada. its a good thing hes a and his wife made him sell the bike because he'd be dead by now.

Most of the people at my work are not "that guy"

there is one that talks about his stock GTO being able to outhandle/beat any bike on a track.

me: "how do you figure that your gto can do that?"
him: "dude, IRS man....IRS"
me: "you are right, a gto's IRS is most definitely (the) ."
*i walk away*

Seems like the best part of their stories always is with the reason they no longer have a bike. I wonder if those people would tell the same type of story to a pilot. "What kinda' plane you got?" "I used to have a CESNA, but I crashed it from about 50,000 feet...... I have a scar here somewhere.....Wait... I mean I used to have a scar".......

Sad part is..... That story is more believable that some of the, "I used to have a gixxer" stories I've heard.

Trust me... I feel your pain. I sometimes wonder if people think I'm one of those people when I say, "I have a gixxer". Especially since there are some people I know who still has never seen it other than in pictures.

I once fell off the Eastex Freeway north bound to the North Loop west bound ramp and was run over by a Kenworth pullin' logs. Luckily I had gear on.

Be thankful you dont work at a bike shop. "That guy" comes in about 3 times a week and tells his storys.
What always amazed me is they somehow believe that the people who work around, own and ride motorcycles don't realize they are full of . It would be similar to walking into a Karate school and telling the guy who runs the place all about the fights you had and people you beat up. He will be able to tell in a millisecond that you don't know what you're talking about.

I park up front every day at the lot because it's covered, and it never fails. At least once a day someone says, "how much for the bike". My response now is, "10k, do you even know how to ride?"
