Cool Questions for the experienced dads on bikes

My daughter is 8 & about to graduate to riding her bike without training wheels.
She is a bit of a speedster & I wondering how any you got your kids into riding without training wheels ?
We rode Saturday afternoon & wehn we got back home , she asked me to take the wheels off her bike.
I adjusted the seat height ,but she hasn't rode yet without the wheels.
Should I start her out on the grass ,follow her on foot closly for a while or short distance ?
I would hate to see her fall & need a teeth job if you know what I mean .
I appreciate your input please.

not experienced in this yet, but i would put her in a full face hemet and knee pads n elbow pads n let her try it. if she shows she can do it then switch back to a regular bike helmet.

just a thought. not sure if its logical

thanks, I though about moving the training wheels up some & leaving them on a while longer ,but she wants them off becasue she sees her mom & me ride without them . lol
She also wants to be the frist kid in her group of friends that doesn't need training wheels. lol

When it was time, only took 15 minutes for both of my daughters to start riding without training wheels. Geared them up and walked / jogged beside em. They did fine, once they understood the dynamics.

Reminds me of the earlier post of the little girl in India on the motorcycle with her dad.

If she wants to take them off, that is the best case. I have one grand daughter that didn't want to take them off, even tho her younger sister was already two wheeling it. Just start slow, jog along side, and make sure she has an out towards some soft grass.

I started riding my bike without training wheels right when i turned 4. My brother was 13 before he rode without training wheels. He just had no ambition to learn.

Interesting because I'm in a similar situation. My son (3) wants a motorcycle but the wife won't allow it till he rides his bike without training wheels...

I think he may "want" a bike, but will probably puss out when he hears the engine.

I'm trying to get mine to ride her XR50 with the training wheels off. She is refusing to do it. I'm refusing to let her do it forever. So at the moment she is not riding at all. LOL

Good thread. Here's another question... how young is too young to be riding ? In other words... how old do you think a kid has to be to ride as a passenger... on a sportbike.

Dude...

I know that's the term, but come on...

Anyways, to answer your question... When we road out to Navasota we saw a family of 4 Momma, Daddy, Son (about 6), Daughter (about 7-8) in full gear riding with their parents. I think they where on V-Stroms...

Prety cool site too.
