Do you wreck at the track? Sure. I have, twice. One was in turn one at TWS (Texas World Speedway) coming down off the front straight at 150mph.. What happened then? Ok guys... enough with the track vs street. Every single thread that someone posts about going down there is always someone else that has to preach about the track. It's definitely good advice, the problem is that it's a personal choice for each rider and the debate spirals way out of control.

Mark06 like you said, "To each his own", and if you're gonna say that, cool then lets leave it at that. Not "To each his own, but if you don't do it my way you're dumb" LOL... That's like saying "I'm not gonna say I told you so, but I told you so". You've chosen your way, and we've chosen ours. But again, you're right, there's always room for improvement (ie: track days).

I know Sunday Rider catches alot of about riding the streets, but I guess he kinda said it best. If there's a thread about someone going down and they're ok, let's just try to wish the guy well and really keep it "To each his own".

Keith Code's classes discuss these exact issues and methods of dealing with them. FWIW, he has told the story of a bunch of racers and journos all crashing while riding in the canyons in California.....list included doug chandler and Code. Someone spilled diesel in a turn and about 6 of them went down and the bikes ended up in a pile.

Now, I haven't got a dog in the hunt re track vs street. I just know what has worked for me, which I will share:

After years of street riding and when I started doing track days and then club racing, I slowed way down on the street. I have heard a lot of other people say that, too. A major element is that when you start regularly carrying the high cornering speeds of track days/racing, you adjust to those levels to get your 'fix'. When you subsequently go street riding, you are not going to get that fix without taking what feels like WAY too much risk with all of the other distractions present, so, in my case, my mindset changed. I can honestly say that people that rode with me as I transitioned from street to track wondered why I was no longer running up front, and that was the reason.

Hope that makes sense for those of you in to making sense.

FWIW: I have been on rides where riders in front of me crashed in gravel/sand in the road, and the demon they struggled with was target fixation and fear and their panic reactions that made a difficult situation one that resulted in tarmac tasting time. Training and proper practice can assuage these fears in many cases and create a completely different reaction in dealing with these 'obstacles'. QUICK reactions are not so much the key....remaining calm with your head up and eyes looking down the road with an effort to maintaining throttle position in a somewhat neutral position and staying off the brakes once in the sand with your pegs moderately weighted is not a bad starting point for coming out the other side without scrapes and bruises, but results will vary, and I have hit the road more than once by making these errors even though I have trained not to make the reactions that ultimately got me......scat happens.

Just my $.02.
