A cop pulled me over last night and asked that very same question. Fearing total retribution, I did not mention the word "Hayabusa." I stated that it was a GSX1300R.

I usually just say a Honda. Interestingly enough, that satisfies a good majority of people. Obviously they have no clue.

If they prod a bit further, it becomes a Honda 600.

If they are a rider as well, I will say CBR.

It rarely reaches the point where someone gets me to to say the full name of my bike.

Most of the time, it is someone who knows a guy who knows a guy with a bike... so it doesn't get too far.

Triumphs are built by a retarded kid out of an old erector set.

To someone that might not know a whole lot... it would seem like a legitimate question.

I do it backwards. I'm so used to saying gixxer, that's just what I respond and then THAT tells me what kind of rider THEY are.

If they try to hold back a smirk and continue talking about bikes using legit names and dates, then they are a fellow rider.

If they get all excited and state that they used to have a gixxer or they're buddy has a gixxer, then they're probably douchebag riders.

If they correct me and say "gixter" and oh yeah, those go fast and wheelie, right? Man if I get a bike that's what I'm gonna get. Then they're just posers.

If they don't know what I'm talking about but are genuinely still interested, then I'll sit and chat with them about riding and bikes and how to maybe get into riding, etc.

But I never ever ever EVER, under any circumstances, tell them that I race Mustang GT's. That's a-whole-nother level of douchebaggery.

I ran into some guys at Motorcycles Unlimited this AM.

There was a gent riding a '10 CBR600; nice gent. There was also a taller gent that I asked what he rode (note I am in my truck, as I was having Patrick look at some rims and recommend on different aspect ratio tires). His response is that "he is riding the only bike at Motorcycles Unlimited that is legitimately capable of exceeding 200MPH". I look at his '00 Busa with the purple paint and blue lightning bolts with "Busa" painted boldly across the tank, and just chuckle a bit on the inside.

It did seem like he was actually talking down a bit to me. I figured it was not worth the time to ask if he thought his "Busa" would be capable of handling a heavily modified 1000 that puts down more WHP than the ol "Busa". Just not worth it. Just walk away.

Yes, he was "that guy".

Sometimes it does not pay to be a smart a$$ to every person who asks what you ride. You may not know who you are talking to.

Aaron, i was there this morning. I either didnt see you or didn't recognize you. I was near the back trying on some of the Sidi boots.

I remember seeing the busa out front with the lightning bolts though. His buddy had an R6 that (I think it was Bobby) was checking over.

I was talking with Patrick most of the time. I have some rims that I need special care taken when I mount this next week and Patrick was looking them over. I was there from 11-11:45. I didn't see you there either.

I was also looking at an '03 GSXR1000 in the service area that I told them was not factory fairings. Sure enough, HK ABS.

Both front rims? One of them had to be installed reversed?

I just speak the truth. I can count on getting one of a handful of regular responses. I don't sweat the idiots too much. I mean, if I give you an opportunity to prove yourself to be a lying dumbass and you take it, then I just know to avoid you.

Usually those who are asking know nothing of bikes, so it's either just a short "um, nice bike dude" or people asking what a good bike is because they're thinking of getting one - which leads to a long convo I'm usually happy to have.

Some will say that Katana's are slow, heavy POS's - if they need to feel that important I'll just ask them what they like/ride.

******

I did have one guy start telling me about his Triumph (tiger- something) - quote "you know, a REAL bike". I told him I heard that the taillights leaked, he said he just always takes it to the mechanic, or will when he needs to 'cause it's only got 500 miles. He was just full of himself because he had something imported from Europe and expensive. I won't diss the bike, but I've got a lot more props for people who know how to ride than some jacktard with a pricey dust catcher.

So as I'm walking away from my bike the other night............

Guy: "Is that your bike?"

Me: "No"

Guy:

It's not like I didn't have my lid in my hand, riding jacket on, and pulling my gloves off. For fcks sake, if you're going to ask a dumb question, don't be surprised with the answer.
