I am a senior industrial design student at U of H and I wanna know if anybody has any damaged or old gear that they are willing to donate to me so that I can dissect, analyze, design, and create new riding gear. You can PM me thanks.

All I have to add is please, please make an inner pocket that is water resistant for a cell phone... so simple yet no one does it.

...Maybe the kevlar threads on the outside to prevent water/oil penetration

cool thanks for the support everyone. ill take a note of your online names and update yal and will send some survey out to talk about what you want in a jacket, what are your necessities, and what would you like to be able to carry but unfortunately cant hahahahaha. oh and you guys know who would be the main motohouston coordinator to talk too about organizing such a thing? Such as sending this survey to all the members of motohouston?

Seeing as how the thesis is on riding gear, if by "test a few theories" you mean "crashing some gear to see what happens", please be careful, lol.

im thinking more along the lines of fitment, comfort, a jacket for summer winter, maybe all season. or things that they want on a jacket. as far as protection i dont think there is a problem.

the original project started because i hate how jackets that say for both summer and winter, but it dont work well for either so i want to investigate if it is one of the main concerns or if there is something more important to integrate.

thanks for the input though hahahaha

Summer jacket in Houston is pointless because even if you are riding naked it's still 95deg and 85% humidity. It's like riding in a blow dryer... only humid.
I don't know if you want suggestions but here are a couple to consider...

One thing that has always bugged me is that mesh jackets, in many cases, only have a little snap strap on the forearm. In the likely violence of a crash it would be very easy for the elbow armor to roll around and expose the rider's elbow to nearly direct pavement contact.
I'd like to see back armor that is able to vent as well as the mesh and I think it's time jackets started getting chest armor as standard equipment. We armor our elbows, shoulders, knees, backs and feet but our chests (which cover all our organs) are left virtually unprotected.

I always wondered why the motorcycle world doesn't adapt to cage racers that offer undershirts with pumped ice water. I know it's not the most convenient thing to wear or put on but atleast it would be an option for street riders and trackers alike...

Or atleast make use out of the race hump...put a storage spot for a cool ice pack

OP
when you get your concept/design complete and are ready to produce a real jacket, contact Shannon, she can produce one and do it for a very affordable price.

If I can be of service, I would loved to help (when time permits) I'm not an self employed pro, but I tinker with vacuum forming quite a bit. (For hard external shell) parts (like knee pads/elbowpads) it would be VERY EASY to make pre production pieces, and then take that "finished concept" to a manufacturer. Then they have a real idea of what you want (and rider feedback with the pre production unit R&D thru the design phases/changes)

Sorry for the "run on". phone about to die.
