I'm not sure what I did wrong, the intructions were pretty straight forward, but I screwed up somewhere along the line, made it 500 or so miles before it snapped.

Yeah the clip is supposed to go with the open end towards the rear of the bike

curious, did you use anyone listed on the emergency contact list to help get your bike? Not a bad idea to get to know some of these people and keep the numbers handy.

I set it where the closed end is pointing in the direction the chain moves when the bike is moving forward
