Have you looked at the Sidi Cobra? Might be compromise of both worlds.
Never tried one on myself though...

Thanks for all the opinions. Went to Motorcycles Unlimited and tried the SMX-5 and the Vertigos.
Pretty much all spot on with what everyone said.
Just picked them up yesterday.
I love my Vertigo boots.
