i think the point is that "too much brake and a little gravel in a parking lot." is going to be more expensive to fix with a duc and much more likely to happen with a new rider. Most people are simply cautioning him that things are highly probable to put a larger than expect dent in his wallet - regardless of his "respect" of the bikes power.

had a kid in our shop that just had to have a 748 as his first bike........

In under a week he laid it down in a parking lot. 2 rims & a stator cover i believe set him back about $2600 from ducati. Bike was used & only cost 5k.

I think its rather stupid, but if he wants to do it then that's his decision. He's already been given the heads up. It is up to him to decide now. He's prolly just excited and sees it as a big "cool" factor. Who knows... he may end up never dropping it.

Also, as a beginner, its hard to know what bike you really want, because you don't have experience with ANY bikes. With all the different engine types, riding positions, powerbands, ergonomics, reliability, etc... its hard to know what you actually want. Besides a brand name of course.

I cant imagine jumping on any street bike without some MX/ATV experience. The power of an 80s 600 blew my mind, coming from a 250 MX bike. If I hadnt had years of experience with the dynamics of a bike, clutch, throttle, etc, I think I would have myself up good.
