Question Painting a Helmet

For Chirstmas I got a brand new SCORPION EXO-400 Rebel. I like it escept that it's red with designs (I've never been big on design helmets) but I want to make it solid black.

Is it a good idea to sand down some of the gloss on this helmet in order for the spray paint to be absorbed more? I have spray painted the Helmet I currently wear but it was not a shinny high gloss finish on it, it was more dull... Here's a Picture of it Sparx-SO7 is the one I currently have that I painted.

What would be the best way to go about this one? Would it change or alter the integrity of the Helmet if I sand it down? If not sand it down, what paint to use?

Thank you.

I might just end up keeping it that way...they got a great deal on it only 65 bucks...I saw a few others but they were higher in price...I figured if it was easy just to paint it, I would...

But this one seems like it will be more trouble than the last... oh well...I'm stuck with red...

there are links to the old helmet and new Helmet on the OP...
(the ones that are underlined )

Plus I don't want any custome job, just Black paint...I wasnt looking for this to cost me more than some spray paint and sand paper (if needed)

all black also gets you the least visibility from motorist. i recommend bright helmets and reflective areas on jackets.

Medium, but even then, It would have to be a trade, but I don't want to trade it...Just paint it...

Guess, I'll just look at it more... I have just taken it out twice, maybe after more inspection I can figure out what to do...

i painted mine...it is fairly easy. just take it apart/tape off areas, run some thicker sand on it tehn smooth sand it. i used a cheap $1 spray paint, ran a couple of coats on it, wet sanded it a bit, then used an automotive clear on it. it turned out good and solid. nothing to it really but a little elbow grease. after you clear it just get some compound and buff it out...good as new!
