Any idea of what the actual problem could be?

Rumors from dealerships are saying that US bikes were shipped with Euro spec ECUs. They will not pass US emissions, and Kaw is trying to get the few that hit the streets back before the government finds them and levies fines.

Not sure if this is true. People in the loop are saying it is definitely ECU related.

You cant just sell any bike in the US. It has to meet federal emissions standards to be eligible for import and sale. Violating this would result in HUGE fines. The EPA doesnt like to be with.

A couple things were reported thus far. The technical hold had to do with an internal engine part mixup. However a bike on the dyno here in the states saw an indicated 191mph and 189mph on the dyno which may also indicate something about a euro ECU in the US bikes.

Lots of speculation, no actual answers from Kawasaki.

The US market 2011 ZX10Rs are detuned so badly, they are down 20 HP from the ones shipped to the rest of the world.
