um, I think the idea was that if the original poster bought the bike off a private seller that the seller may have been the thief punting it to some unsuspecting customer.

just a thought.

jacob: I have the exact same bike and live down the street from you. plenty of roads west and north that you will enjoy, the old zx6r is a great street bike. I've had mine for 3 years.

It's red. That sucks about the bike getting stolen. I've heard lojack is available for bikes now, but it doesn't seem like there would be too many places to hide it where it couldn't be found by a pro thief.

i bought it from houston motorcycle exchange on shephard & 14th street. i'm not *entirely* happy with them, but they had a blue title for it and my credit union seemed comfortable with the deal.

speaking of stolen bikes, what do you guys do to keep your bike from getting stolen when you have to leave it parked somewhere? so far i've just been using the lock on the ignition to keep the fork turned to the left, but i'm pretty sure 2 or 3 strong guys could pick it up and put it in the back of a truck.

not many real ways to prevent for theft. You could either sit on your bike at all time or get full coverage

Keep the bike hidden as much as possible, away from the street. Always take the key with you. Buy a chain from cycle gear: http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1...tem=MRX_EC1015

This will fit in the tail section of the '02 ZX6R if you take the passenger seat off and add a seat cowl. I usually take it with me if I visit a friend at an apartment complex..I chain the bike to a post or underneath a stairwell. Apts are theif central, beware.

When I get a newer bike I will get lojack or scorpio alarm, but I think anyone willing to steal a 2002 6R wont be a professional, since they're worth very little...so it's likely that a fairly heavy duty chain will be enough to deter the casual thief that would be interested in this bike.

+1^^^ Keep the bike outta plain view from the street and dont leave it unchained overnight. Chain it down with a good heavy duty chain to something solid. I keep mine stowed away ina storage shed at an undisclosed location. hehehe
