Do you at least get road SIDE head?

I do, while texting friends, eating a taco, and filming the act. I tried doing this while driving, didnt work out too well.

By being legal, paying taxes, and carrying insurance I pay for other people's unnecessary risk: riding without a helmet, speeding, being a squid, etc. It is the same with cars. I don't eat, text, talk, get head, etc. while I'm driving. Every month I pay for the people who are less responsible.

It goes beyond money though. Every time I ride or drive I'm at the mercy of other drivers no matter my awareness or skill.

So what if I'm responsible! That makes a minimal difference when I pay taxes or insurance. It makes no difference when I get blindsided.

So you wouldn't mind if they just told us when we could? Is it OK if they decide studies have shown that inclement weather raises our risk of accidents? Or that nothing good happens after midnight and we should park it?

The bottom line is that they don't stop taking. You give them an inch and they take a mile. This is what so many fail to realize. It's not even about the cell phones. We can't lose every battle, we must fight. It's an ultimate battle for liberty and freedom. It always has been. They think liberty is not safe. They want to take all of it. Wake the up. You don't seem to know what the American Dream is

Just make it legal for me to shoot a and I'll be happy. My life is worth more than any conversation or texting that you deem to be so important. If talking or texting is more important than paying attention to the road, then pull the over and do it.

You know I can safely ride the streets at triple digits, so let's just do away with speed limits.

Saids the man doing 52 on I45 (where the speed limit is 65) while texting with one hand and talking to me. All the while I am looking at everyone going around us off that we're blocking traffic and am trying to recline/duck down to hide my face

I don't see the big deal, make texting illegal while driving and require all phones to be "hands free" (bluetooth, etc.) only...

Talking on the cell might not cause accidents but idiots going 55mph in the fast lane because they can't pay attention to there surroundings sure does f@ck up the traffic flow.

The reason I am against texting is because I near get side swiped everyday on the way to work because some hat is trying to text and drive in/out of there lane. Not to mentioned I got rear-ended at a RED LIGHT by some chick trying to text on the way to the mall...

Automatic cell phone shutoff is analogous to airbags because both enhance driver safety. Cell phone shutoff is a prophylactic measure, by making an accident less likely to occur. Airbags are a remedial measure, by making an accident less likely to be severe. Ultimately both are safety measures which restrict freedom. Cell phone shutoff prevents calls from being made in moving cars. Airbags, by activating, can vastly increase the costs of an accident and can turn a fender-bender into an accident needing a tow truck. In both cases driver safety is enhanced, while driver freedom is curtailed.

For a lot of things I favor personal freedom. For some things, motor vehicles most notably, it is impossible to separate individual action from group consequence. When that is the case, I'm completely in favor of some freedom being curtailed to make the system work more smoothly.
not willing to give up my freedom to that at all.
Sorry , I don't need the government poking into my chit like that.

Yea, hard to believe that we have to protect fat from themselves and to keep them away from my tax dollars

Nearly a quarter of Texans could be diabetic in 30 years, report says

The report also warned of dire financial consequences if the growth of diabetes remains unchecked. The cost of diabetes in Texas exceeds $12.5 billion annually -- $8.1 billion in excess medical expenditures and $4.4 billion in worker absenteeism, reduced productivity, unemployment and other indirect costs.

ya know, in the four years ive been riding ive only had a couple of near misses because of people not paying attention. those of you who say it happens every day may either need to think about taking another route to commute or learn to ride/drive a little more defensively. theres just no other way around it.
