I would but would not want you to try and romance me in the swamps.
Look around the sided on the engine casings for oil leaks and to see if some one tried to seal any leaks with sealant. Check for rash all over the bike, bent levers, rash on levers. Check oil and coolant level. Test ride?

I agree take it to the shop. There is alot to check on for a used bike especially when you are new, unless I read that wrong.
But if you dont also check the chain, look at the brakes (pads) suspension. Also from what you can see look at the wire harness area. I have seen guys selling bike that have had serious electrical issues.

I'd be pretty concerned about the reasoning behind the owner putting new plastics & spray painting the back half of the tank. He makes it sound as if the bike he's trading you doesn't look like what those photos are showing. Also who (& how) did the lowering of the bike? If he did it himself I'd be more weary. Did he lower just the front? The back too? I've heard numerous times if you start messing w/ ride height & don't know what you are doing, it's easy to alter the geometry of the bike.

I.e. - totally change the way the bike handles.

My opinion...

Get pics of bike in it's current condition to make sure that it's what your expecting.
Get vin # of bike & see if you can get someone to run them

& like others said... Take it to Motorcycles Unlimited before you make the trade.

Yep take it too Motorcycles Unlimited they are the best people in Houston hands down.nothing but good things to say about them. if you can't take it too them and his story don't line up don't buy it it could cost more to fix all problems that come up with it.

hey guys talked to the owner of the bike. he agreed to go to Motorcycles Unlimited to get the bike looked at. he stated the the reason why the bike had new plastics was due to the bike previously being a stunt bike and plastics were missing. he replaced the stator cover and oil pan. lowered the bike by installing a dog bone in the rear and adjusting the triple tree in the front. he insured me that the bike is in really good condition. he replaced everything like new as this was too his first bike. he says i would have to modify the foot stand due to being lowered. he replaced sprocket with new factory, he said that it might have had the 520 setup. can anyone tell me what kind of exhaust that has on the picture. this guy is a really good guy and has been nothing short of informational. he told me he has nothing to hide and assures me everything. so bike is coming down from lake charles and straight to Motorcycles Unlimited to get inspected. thanks guys. i feel a lot better now and more confident with going thru the transaction. thanks to all you guys.

Clear title?
To me that's a deal killer if he doesn't have it. Be sure Patrick knows it was a stunt bike, that's hard on a bike and he will want to check the frame, steering head and forks extra good.
