Broken Frame!!

Hello all; a friend of mine likes to stunt with his street bike, a wk ago he decided to take it off road, he said it's fun sliding on the grass/dirt & what not . i told him b4 that a sport bike is not meant for off roading ( he didnt give a f@$%) oh well! he high sided the a good 5 feet in the air and it rolled a few times, he got lucky, walking away with a bruised back, but the bike got f#$%ed up, dented tank, broken handle bars & frame, no fairings since it's an FZ1(@ least how it looks)...newy, he took it to a shop hoping they can weld the frame back, no chance, the guy @ the shop said it's not safe, can't do it and you need to buy a new frame. He asked me about the situation, i cant help, i dont know how that goes.

so does any1 know how can he go about changing the frame(the vin # & tilte) do u buy another one and transfer everything to it??

I can say this with experience, the frame CAN be welded, but the frame WILL crack again, more then likely in the same place. I know because I did this. Buy a new frame, or buy a new bike, dont even mess with welding it. If he wants to stunt tell him to get something besides an FZ1

i try to have fun the safer way, i know my limit, i guess some dont. I already lost a friend last year, how can i describe the way he rides; he was the red dot that you see from far way at night on a dark highway, yet a few seconds ago he was behind you. {R.I.P} he got hit making a simple left turn by a d**k that ran a red light...you know the rest.

everyone have fun, be careful and know your limit.

FWIW...

Typical late model motorcycle frames are specific series aluminum which requires a very precise method of welding then PWA / HT. You will note that the weld will fail on either side of the weld in the heat affected zone.

The factory does it properly and there are few places that can reproduce the welding procedure.

Best of luck to your friend.
