Saddlebags and high mount exhaust - options?

Going on a road trip to the Grand Canyon later this month and I'm working on buying the luggage I need. My SV has a high mount exhaust though, and the saddlebags I want would be resting right on the muffler. I'd have to put something on top of the rear seat to raise the bags up at least 3 inches, which would end up raising the tail bag and duffel bag too. That's a lot of weight to be moving even further back and higher. How much would it run me to have a shop relocate the exhaust to the stock position? I'd need a new mounting bracket and exhaust piping...Any other ideas?

You should be fine with that. just pack as light as possible in the backpack.

you should only need a few sets of clothes a map and your phone and a few tools just in case.

What about adding a heat proof backing to just that one saddle bag? Get some pop rivets, then some thin sheet metal, and just add a layer of insulation between the bag and metal.

if you are going to the Grand Canyon remember that the rim is at over 6,000 feet altitude and you just might run into snow out there this time of year.

I would stop by Palo Duro Canyon, which is just SE of Amarillo on the way out or back cause going on down to Big Bend is waaaaay out of the way on your route.

I have the same problem on my '04 SV-650s with high mount exhaust. Have fun.
