please. riders dont have loud pipes for safety, it's
an excuse used to justify the quest to try and sound big, bad, and fast. and saying that black folk cruisin with hip hop blastin is irritating and your white man's bike with loud pipes is for safety...that's hypocritical.

if you were really into safety, you would have a fluorescent jacket with reflectors, a helmet with reflectors, and a strobing brake light. I'd wager you dont have any of this. this loud pipes defense is one of the myths listed here:

http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/str..._safety_myths/

personally, I dont give a whether you have loud pipes or not. just dont try and justify it with feeble excuses.

dude, call it a myth all you want, I know for a fact, the loud pipes on my bike are for someone to hear me. They take more notice of my position next to them.
Who are you to tell me what I'm doing and thinking? I dont give a rats about a web site article you have read.
People do take notice when its louder, I have tried the quiet approach and went back to the loud for one reason, traffic safety, not size. Nothing to do with feeble excuses asshat.
You have no clue, I am speaking from experience, you are not.
hush it noob.

seriously , it has nothing to do with you being right. I dunno why you insist that you know what I'm thinking, what motivates me. damnest thing I've seen on the forums yet. You must be the amazing kreskin or sumptin' sound like you think you can read minds.
I've explained to you why my exhaust is loud, you read a website that says different, its like me saying all metric riders are asshats, when its not true, just you are.
really, I'll say it again, when I went with the baffles in my pipes, maybe coincidence, but twice in one day, I had a car come into my lane. Without the baffles, it hasnt happened since.
THATS WHY I ****ING HAVE MY PIPES LOUD MR. EINSTEIN

understand, I'm a 40+ year old guy, not a teenager trying to impress chicks.jeeez

Hi!

I read your article on noisy motorcycles. After reading the article, I find your reason for writing the unclear. As a journalism major, I find that you wander from point-to-point without fully explaining the previous point.

Is the point of the article to state that motorcycles are too noisy? If it is, perhaps you should have given a little more evidence, as well as some personal experiences detailing why an occasional loud motorcycle is such a nuisance to you. I mean really, how many of these big bad motorcycles do you encounter in the course of a day or week? Does one loud motorcycle in the course of a day really make that big of a difference to your quality of life? It is really sad if a little noisy motorcycle is enough to make your life miserable. Miserable?? That’s a pretty strong word!

Is the point of the article to stereotype all bikers as “slobs?” (You sir, are a slob on a hog.) If it is, I take personal offense at that “cheap shot.” I am a middle aged, educated white woman. I wouldn’t classify myself as a slob. Additionally, the people that I have encountered within the biking community are, for the most part, extremely nice and helpful. This is in spite of that old worn, “bad boy” image. You yourself stated that you have a friend with a bike!! Is that friend a slob? Since you rode on the back of the bike, does that make you now a slob? If you needed help on the side of a road, I bet you that a motorcycle driver would stop to help.

Bottom line, I’d have to file this article under the heading of, “So what?” Meaning, you personally don’t like loud motorcycles and you think that people that drive motorcycles are slobs. Is any of that life threatening? Is any of your article life enhancing? No, not really. It doesn’t inspire me to change. It doesn’t. I’m sorry you don’t like motorcycles or motorcyclists. You really sound like an uptight yuppie that needs to get out for a great ride, let the wind blow through your hair and experience the feeling of freedom that comes from riding a bike.

I’m sorry that we cause your urban panties to be in a bunch.

Another slob on a hog

Hey, guess what.....

The editor from the Edmonton newspaper contacted me for permission to publish my letter in their newspaper!!!

This is what they sent me :

Hello,

I'd like to consider your letter for publication, but to do so I must include a full name, first and last, and a city/town of residence. Could you email that to me as quickly as possible?

Thanks, Charlie Anderson, Letters Editor

I would do it on the condition that the letter be posted in its original entirety and not edited. That was a masterful response.

Ill be honest, I never really notice cruisers with loud exhaust when driving at freeway speeds till they pass. Ill have my radio on, but not at deafening levels. Normaly Ill have it to where I can talk to my passenger with ease. If I have it up, forget it. lol
