Some issues with my 01 sv650...

Noticed a few issues this weekend at the LSR. It's always backfired a little bit when letting off the throttle, but not all the time and I've heard worse so I wasn't worried about it. Now the engine will sometimes stop accelerating like I hit the rev limiter or lose power and sputter above 6k or so. Starting from a stop it will lose power and sputter sometimes too. I also noticed a that the starter would stop cranking sometimes. It will stop, the lights will dim, then slowly start cranking again. Yesterday morning in the high 40s it seems like the motor was knocking a few minutes on cold start up. Any ideas? I'll check the air filter to see if it's OEM or not, I know that could be part of the reason why it's running lean.

Sounds like a combination of jetting and a weak battery.

Knocking in cold, could be a function of oil viscosity.

yep, probably one carb clogged up and not jetting properly. I had a similar problem, and the back carb was gummed up. Pilot jet was almost closed. Does it run better with the choke on?

Pull and read plugs. Easily done on these bikes.

Need a bit of background.
Do you ride the bike regularly?
How many miles are on it?
What mods does it have; jet kit, etc.?

Patrick this is Adam, I brought it by last month to have you guys check it out. I forgot the name of the guy who rode it but he was the owner of the sv650 you have for sale. The bike has 13000 miles, I take it out a few times a week, bought it last month and no history of mods that might have been done.

The owner of the SV we have for sale never had another one, so I'm unsure of who you're talking about.
First thing, check to make sure both carbs are fully seated in the intake boots.

Sorry, when I said he rode it I meant he test drove it for me. He wasn't the seller.
