I guess, but as you sell it, go the the texas dot website and submit their thing that says that you no longer own the vehicle.

Some people actually remove their license plates.

I would make the bill of sale and get a copy of the buyers Dl

i think ive decided to do the transaction at my bank. that way they can notarize the bill of sale im creating on word, which i didnt know i had, lol. then they can make sure the moneys real too. i guess removing the plates is a good idea. would force him to register the car. and cancel my insurance too.

Great! Just PM me if you have any other questions dude. I would advise you to keep your plates on a car though, to make sure they register it after you sell it.

It really doesn't matter if they register the car after he sells it or not, that's the reason to fill the form from the dot website to remove your from the car.

Is there a grace period for him to drive the car home with no plates but with a bill of sale?

Law requires you to register within 20 days as far as I recall. Give him a signed and dated title and signed and datedbill of sale and he should be fine. Also, his current insurance will cover him on the new car for 30 days(unlike MC's)
