Now if I can just get that stop sign writing MC cop out of my neighborhood I could drive in peace and pay attention to the road, not worrying about tickets for rolling neighborhood stop signs. He MUST have something worth patrolling SOMEWHERE with my tax dollars!

If a police officer handed you a citation, you'd better pay it.

If a company mailed you one from a camera, wipe your with it and send it back...

Now that IS an excellent suggestion...

However, wouldn't that run afoul of sending biological hazards through the mails?

Nope - just don't want to get run over in an intersection by some A-Hole Houston driver.

And you REALLY think a camera is going to make a difference?

The guy who isn't paying enough attention to stop isn't going to stop with or without the light. The lights primarily affect those who simply misjudged the distance or who didn't stop QUITE long enough before making a right turn on red.

If the cameras actually had some beneficial effect, you better believe there would be some data to prove it. As there is none...well....

I have a question for any of you that are knowledgable on the legality behind these cameras and not paying the fines.

Someone said that by law, you don't have to pay the fines. Does the same apply in every state?

Because I got a ticket for this in CA. It would have been a different story if I didn't travel there all the time for work, but I ended up paying the fine and it was a RIDICULOUS amount too.... Wouldn't want to get arrested for a warrant while on a work trip.

But if I didn't have to pay it, it'll be good to know for next time... And I'm gonna be

That would never happen. Politicians never go against the will of the people.

I don't give a if they are revenue generators. I think it is an inventive way to generate some revenue in rough times. I would much rather have these than see my property taxes go up. Would be nice to see the actual numbers of what is coming in to the purse.

Fact is they do help. I think many people do this habitually. It is not only the occasional distracted person. Hit people in the pocket book and they start to pay attention.

Hmmm, I got I just got one of these in the mail last week for not coming to a complete stop at a redlight before I made a right hand turn. I asked my friends mom about it who is the county clerk to see if she could help me get out of it, and she told me no since it is not actually the citys police department giving the tickets. The fine is $75 right now, and she said if I dont pay it, it will go up to $100, and will be turned into a collection agency, and I will not be able to renew my registration until I pay the fine. Is this true? I was planning on just not paying the ticket and if anything ever comes of it, Ill just say I never got it in the mail, or else I would of paid it. Can they make it to where I cant renew my registration on my car and bike, or is that just bs?

Quite a few studies have shown that red light cameras REDUCE "broadside" accidents by 40%...

Even if red light cameras do not prevent a single accident, they catch people who brake the law. Plain and simple! You simply can not argue that fact. If you break the law you deserve some form of punishment. I have no problem generating revenue from people who run red lights. I think if you get three tickets for the same violation than you should get your license suspended for three months.

How much would you like to bet that if Bill White were still mayor he would have filled a law suite to render this election null and void for as long as possible?

Exactly how I got my ticket, slowing rt turn at red. It's BS but I paid it late $125! Most red light tickets are of this fashion. I basically got a ticket for slowing down at an intersection and went when I was sure it was safe. WTF BS ticket. The only good thing about red light camera is target practice.
