No they don't, they said what he was doing was LEGAL. If it had been illegal, then I could see why they would have to rewrite it. Did you just decide that?

Kind of hard for us to follow a law that we don't understand isn't it?

we don't understand many of the laws that are on the books. . .ignorance of the law is not an excuse to violate the law

I love how you guys complain about this cop, but then you still put loud exhaust pipes on your bikes

If you didn't have a loud aftermarket exhaust pipe on your bike, you wouldn't have a problem. He's not causing the problem, you are...

Having said that, I don't agree with how he behaves or how he spends his time. He could be out protecting and serving like the slogan says, but catching criminals doesn't generate revenue.

That was one judge that apparently liked the way he thought. Thats why these things make their way to higher courts. Smaller ones are locally based where the cops know the judges and are very biased.

I guarantee you if this was to make it to a higher court, it would be reversed.

The guy I know was found guilty for throwing the finger, he fought it and took it to the supreme court and the judges found in his favor.

No different here.

Hey mister... your bimmer is pretty loud. Leo vince pipes must have set you back a pretty penny. Surely you can't be implying that your gonna replace your exhaust w/ a stock or "quieter" exhaust, right?

Why should this crusader be allowed to decide w/o any evidence of his findings which exhaust pipes are with or against the law?

IMHO... Seems pretty cut & dry: Abuse of power.

there is a whole article on this months issue of Sports Rider magazine regarding this issue of Noise.... It states that the LAW is So Vague that Officers usualy issue citations incorrectly because they dont have instruments that measure Noise Db accurately.... The New Feredal Law will require this but also it will enhace the LAW by lowering the Db and Aftermarket Exhaust systems will have to be Gov E stamped and regualted for noise.. Could be a Huge change in Aftermarket Parts, Could be the end in some places .....

When they aren't putting big time offenders away, they are writing tickets for little offenders..I think the more you guys push this stupid issue, the tougher its going to come down on us. Sooner or later we will be like korea, where you get a fine for ANYTHING that is not STOCK.

Just because an officers focuses on one thing doesn't mean he is ignoring his job responsibilites on other offenders. He simply is more in tune with finding loud exhausts as a nuicance.

I see both sides of the coin here, but really....he isn't cutting you off, and walking up plain clothed, weilding a gun now is he?

There are more important issues to focus on. Every officer has their pet peeve, or their hook to follow up on. I don't see anyone following up on the other officers issues here.

First, you're contradicting yourself, either you don't understand the law and aren't following it, which in all honesty is a lame excuse that won't hold up in court. OR you do understand it but choose not to obey it, in which case it's pretty simple; pay to play.

Neither one of those tactics will gain you much more than a ticket.

As far as it doesn't harm anyone else but the officer, you're incorrect.
Not everyone likes to hear loud pipes, especially residents who don't ride.
It's no different than if your neighbor decided to blast his radio at 2 a.m., it irritates people. Those people pick up the phone and call in complaints, those complaints turn into referendums and then laws, and guess what, there's more of them than there is of us.

That said, if you REALLY want to do something to affect change other than posture on the internet, get involved with several of the local and state organizations that are working to help shape / influence the law.
At this point, unless there's some significant pressure brought to bear from the motorcyclists side of things, the sale of aftermarket exhausts will become illegal altogether.

Here's a good starting point:

Well, a letter or two to your local elected official wouldn't hurt.

OR a few letters to a certain local news channel to "investigate" the issue ..........

Problem with the officer in question my friend is he would ticket you for the QUIET insert as well, since you're not 100% stock. He's given tickets to vehicles with totally stock exhaust with the sole exception of a chrome tip.
