Akuma Phantom 2?

I crashed out and hit my head (no concussion but helmet does have some nice gouges in it) on saturday so I'm looking at a new helmet. I had a shoei rf-1100 before which I did like, but I'm looking around to see if theres anything that I like more.

I was looking at cycle gear's site and saw the Akuma Phantom 2 (http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1...tem=AKH_CFPHGL) and it seems like its a pretty nice helmet. I know SNELL is the big cert and this helmet is ECE certified instead, but since thats certified for AMA racing I'm pretty confident.

Any thoughts?

I have not heard good things from people who own Akuma helmets, but I have no personal experience.
The gents at Cycle Gear on I-45 S are the source of my bad stories.
Most complaints are poor build quality and cheap graphics.
If you do get one please post a review. G'luck.

Interesting. Maybe those guys at cycle gear don't know what they are talking about. Web Bike world seems to like Akuma helmets.

Conclusion

The Akuma Phantom II helmet shows what can be done when attention is paid to weight. The combination of light weight and the standard photochromic visor, along with the high quality fit and finish, make this one a standout.

Yeah I read some reviews of it afterwards seems to get good reviews. I couldn't find a crash test review though. Figure I'll give it a shot.

Cycle gear have a pretty good return policy so I'm gonna order it in-store. I'll put a up review in a couple weeks once I get my bike up and running again.

I own an Akuma. While it is not as great as my Suomy Spec 1R Extreem(s) it is a great helmet for the $$. Quality of the shell and lining are excellent, and I have not had any malfunctions. I've owned it for 2 years. It is my night time helmet, though, so I don't wear it but maybe 2x a month. These guys are based out of San Antonio, so support your Texas company.

If you want to buy one of these helmets go into a cyclegear store and order it, not from their website. The helmet is marked as on sale on their computer system and about 60% off of the cost on the website. I asked the guy if that was the right price and he said it was, so if you're interested in getting this helmet for super cheap go check it out.

Figured I should update this. Basically cyclegear tried for 2 weeks to contact akuma to order the helmet. No response to phone calls or voicemails. I tried the same and nothing. Its a shame. Maybe they've gone out of business?

I ended getting an rf1100 instead.
