HELP! Need a new bike

I just accepted a job offer today in NYC, and I'm moving out of Houston the 21st of August. Company car and 25% raise...my only transportation cost will be of the two wheeled variety. So at long last I can FINALLY get that new bike.

But which one?

The choices: new GSX-R 750, 04-05 ZX-10R, new aprilia tuono, ducati monster S4RS, or 05-06 ZX6R.

opinions? I've been riding for about 4 years and track for about 2. I tour, commute, and do track days. I ride a lot, basically.

thanks! and thanks to the motohouston crowd, I dont know many of you but I learned quite a bit from this board, and have been helped out plenty by folks here.

Also, I will be posting up some bike stuff for sale in the classifieds section including a ramp and a new metzeler M3 180 rear tire. Some house odds and ends as well.

btw, i know a few people in NY that own that bike but they dont ride alot due to the weather and road conditions (slush, salt, and sand).

if you want their opinion on what you should get i can forward you their SN on kawiforums.com. they are well informed and do similar riding like yourself in and around NY.

have you ever been to NY city? i don't think i would even want to own a sportbike there due to the large amount of traffic. you'll probably reach a top speed of about 40mph if you're lucky. as gay as it sounds get a moped lol

Thanks arturo, I'd really appreciate that. and I am leaning towards the new 6R.

I hear you, Chasee. My girl already lives there, she got a job a few months back and left houston that's the main reason I was looking for a job. I've been there a lot, and the roads in New Jersey...as weird as that sounds...are better than here, moto wise. Once you get out of NY metro area that is.

Monster is a great in-town bike apparently, I see them everywhere in the city. Speaking of scooters I have seen this in manhattan too, which caught my eye:

A racing replica scooter, lol.

I'd go with the monster.

Best seat height for me and I think it has the advantage of better body position.

hmm... why not get a 250?

Yes it's definitely expensive. the girl makes 20k more than I will and we're planning on buying a place on the NJ side which is much cheaper...but it will still take a lot of adjustment, you're right. I dont know if I'm mentally prepared yet... :eh:

I've thought of the FZ1 but have you seen the tuono? If I was going naked, the italian bikes are too freaking beautiful to ignore. the tail section on the new tuono is art.

Don't forget, he won't have a car payment, car insurance, or have to buy $3 a gallon gas for a car. Although "housing" it is significantly more expensive, you get to help offset that with things you don't need in the big city.

Good luck to you. I think you're the same guy that I gave a ride up to College Station for a track day last year? I remember you talking about NYC back then. I think your g/f was just about to move. Glad to hear all the stars aligned for you to make the move.

I myself, am moving to Austin in 3 weeks. Be safe out there...

PS- Go with a twin. You won't regret it. :icon_bigg

I like the Italians just hate the cost of ownership(which everyone will say it's not that bad, but that's BS!!!) Back to the NYC cost of living now.... a pack of cig's 8$ a beer in the city $10+ (at nicer places yes but still) love to visit would hate to live there w/o making big$$$

good luck with the move.. I just moved out of nyc to houston like 7 months ago. There are a couple of places that are nice to ride. Ride to bear mountain (upstate ny) is pretty fun. What's also nice is riding the back roads on the north side of long island by oyster bay. As far as the cost of living it's like double the price of what rent is in houston. But anyway enjoy nyc cause sometimes I miss the nightlife but houston is a pretty good city in it's own way. (miss riding the bike though, houston is to hot and humid to be riding in the summer, Can't imagine being on a bike with full gear on a hot afternoon)

I love mine, but I can only compare it to a gixxer.

If you're thinking of the 6R, I'd wait and see how the 07 will stack up since it'll be released in just a few months. . . could/should be a much better bike. I also paid a lot less than everyone else I know with other 600's.

Yes that was me. Thank you again for helping me out that day, my truck broke down and I had no way of getting to the track. She wasnt even there yet but we were already worried about me finding a job there. 10 months later...something came through. Weird how things happen, just when you're about to give up...

Good luck on the move to Austin, there will be no shortage of good riding where you're headed!
