Suomy Vandal vs. Shoei RF1000

Anyone have experience with both of these helmets? I currently have a Shoei RF1000 that is approaching 5 years in age. Looking at Suomy as a replacement. How do they compare in real world sizing, quality and comfort?

I know the Suomy is reportedly very loud, but I always wear earplugs so that doesn't concern me as much.

I have both and vote for the RF. It just fits my head better. I dont like the way the lens changes out on the Suomy either.

How does sizing compare?

My shoei (xl) is a little loose in cheek pad area, could have used large cheek pads instead. Where does the RF fit you better than the Vandal?

The Vandal feels tight at rest but wobbles a bit at 150+. It tends to get kinda blurry

ive got a spec1r and an rf. the rf cheek pads wore out and got 'loose' real quick. I prefer my spec1r, but hate how my anti-fog lens is falling off.

not sure about the vandal and rf1000 but I have several of the spec 1r extreme and x-elevens. I love the way Suomy fits my melon but there customer service sucks ! Suomy closed down the US operations and now its just like one guy incharge of all US repairs and warranty work. Ive had to wait 3 months to get a new shield for my lid, no bueno in my opinion. The Shoei is just as good and I've never had any problems with them so I would have to say Shoei. Plus Shoei is much easier to change the shields and take apart.

I have a Shoei RF 1000 and a Suomy Spec 1r Extreme. I would recommend the Suomy over the Shoei. I have an XS in both but went with a thinner head liner for the Spec 1r. I probably should have gotten a Small in the Spec 1r but I wanted a tighter fit for the track. As others have said, the cheek pads on the RF1000 stretched out and the helmet fits loose now.

The main reason I bought the Suomy was because the "lip" on the back of the RF 1000 kept getting caught on the back of my leathers, pushing the helmet forward, reducing my site. The "loose fit" was probably a contributing factor, but I have heard other people complain about the lip as well. The Suomy has a bigger eye port and doesn't get caught on the back of my leathers. The Extreme lets a ton of air through and unfortunately dries my contacts out. Something to consider if you wear contacts. The Suomy is also lighter.

Hope this helps.
