Mirrors or no mirros and why?

I swear I was going to put up this thread yesterday but I had to get to work and put it off.

I was having an argument with someone about why the ANYONE would take the mirrors off their bike. Makes zero sense to me. I dont get it. If I didnt have mirrors I might be dead or really up right now.

You are a sitting duck on that thing as it is. Taking the mirrors off is like a boxer wearing a patch over his left eye taking on a right handed fighter.

I think its a retarded thing to do. I take that back, I KNOW its a retarded thing to do. But to each his own.

So is it really worth possibly getting killed just to look cool and have a more race bike look?

Whats your reasoning?

I dunno... I like my mirrors. I tried riding a bike with the little custom ones, and I couldn't see . I like being able to glance back and see what is behind me.

I ride without mirrors.

But since you KNOW it is a retarded thing to do I better put them back on right now.

I wrecked my bike and they broke off. I didn't think they were vital to be replaced so I never did. When I rode my brothers bike recently I saw how nice it was to actually see around you without turning all the way plum around.

I'm kinda with OP on this one. Unless you're at the track, mirrors are pretty important. I actively use my mirrors all the time. Especially for freeway riding. I think I'd rather have mirrors than a tach... that's how much I use them.

But, like mentioned, to each their own. I don't really care what everyone else does... I want my mirrors on.

done it both ways on diff bikes, it is deffinitly safer to have them. they cut down on reaction time vs having to turn around. but then again i turn around and look most of the time regardless even with mirrors.

MIRRORS FTW!!!!!!

Staying alive is a good thing....

no sense in compromising your awareness on the road just to look cool or reduce like .0005 oz of weight off the bike.

Done it both ways, having them on is obviously better for awareness "not to mention legal" but I dont have mirrors right now since I went to the track just havent put them back on.

First I've heard of this, other than at the track. Seems pretty obviously dangerous to me.

I can't stand riding without mirrors. But everytime I ride the track I take them off to save a little money if I crash. Then I get lazy, forget to put them on, and end up riding scared. Stupid Riding without mirrors is riding blind to 1/2 the world. You can bet your you're gonna get run over from behind at some point...either stopped, changing lanes, or stopping abruptly.

Done it both ways, makes no difference to me cause I have to turn around no matter what. The mirrors on the duc are on just for show they are absolutely worthless

DOT laws. ...try explaining that to the cop who just pulled you over for having tucked plates, no helmet, no m.c. endorsement, and no insurance. I'm sure you look cool though

I dont have them but i pretty much never ride on the street. When i did have them and rode all the time i never used them though. I always turn and look instead of using my them so when i did take them off i never missed them

Exactly, I turn my head a lot. There are times that turning your head just wont do. You need the mirrors.

When I heard the tires screeching, I didnt know where they were coming from, a quick split second glance at the mirrors told me all I had to know.

If I had turned around, I would have got nailed by the time I turned my head to look.

I still think its a horrible idea to not having them. Function over fashion.

I ride without them on my new bike. The stockers are worthless and even if I had a field of view with them I wouldn't be able to see anything because the bike vibrates so much. Tried a couple different types to no avail, so right now I am mirrorless. I do like having mirrors though. My Tuono had badass mirrors and I could see everything.
