Wont shift

my shifter is broken, it will not spring back when i push it down or up, it just stays there. i did let the clutch out and came to a jerking stall earlier that day i was leaving the yamaha dealer with a new front tire and that drive way is steep, i dont know if that had something to do with it. the bike ran fine after that.

any thoughs
