turning left from right lane takes out bike. Vid.

This is such a up thing here. I wonder what the laws are like over there for negligently killing someone.

So sad.

Hate to see these videos, hopefully people on here see them and learn to be more aware and on the ready for anything.

I can't watch it knowing the rider died. This is one on my hugest fears because there is very little to be done about it.

I don't know what the laws might be in that country, but the motorcycle rider was passing a vehicle by crossing a solid white line, which would be illegal in this country. If it is legal to cross that white line, the motorcyclist was making an unsafe pass. I disagree, the cager is NOT the .

Pretty sure its still illegal to make a left turn from a right lane.

If i'm not mistaken, a solid white line in USA is 'suggested do not pass' while a double white line is 'do not pass'.

+1000, Agreed. That was an illegal left turn and they didn't check mirrors before cutting. Would involuntary manslaughter fit the bill? It looks like the car cut off two bikers so that's double manslaughter?

Just looked up the law, you're right about the solid white line.

I don't think he was passing. I think they are riding staggered and see the vehicle come over, maybe thinking the car was jumping in his lane he starts swinging wide. There was no vehicle in the left lane for them to be passing

Watch again from the beginning. Watch the second instance in which they show the crash....Camera view is expanded and you can see the car in the left lane they are passing.

I don't see markings denoting a 4 lane road, just 2 wide lanes with ugly shoulders.

That's the thing that makes it unclear for us. I'm assuming this didn't take place in the US? In other countries people often split up unmarked lanes as if it was a multi-lane road.

The issue is that the vehicle treated that single lane road as a multi-lane by shifting right, thereby hiding himself from the riders then reappeared to the left edge simultaneously making the left turn.

It was a bad situation in all regards.

It could also be the driver was looking at the station, drifted right and went into a softer shoulder. Or maybe he pulled to the side to let that car that was going faster pass.
Regardless, the operator of the 'van' has limited view to the sides/rear in comparision to those behind him. The riders were obviously moving faster than the rest of traffic and own responsibility.

I'm also trying to figure out why they stiched two different videos together.

Just cause the video was posted doesnt mean disrespect. Take it as a warning to be a defensive driver and watch out for the dumb who dont know how to drive. not just knowing how to drive a motorcycle but a car. Stay Alert, Stay Alive. Always keep your head on a swivel.
