I had a Mean Streak 1600 and loved it. My first street bike was a Honda Shadow Spirit 600 and it was an awesome learner.

Welcome to MH

First and formost is getting you MSF, check out Awesome Cycles. They are a sponsor here and I believe they even offer a member discount.

The Vulcan is a good bike. If it's used you can bring it by and we'll do a visual inspection and test drive for free before you buy it.
As far as classes check out Awesome Cycles 281 Awesome.
They're also a site sponsor so you get a discount.
