See if they will give you brake pads from a donor car.

Where does it stop? It would have to be a judgment call each time. But in this case it was a small part and the guy was miles from home and even found them a replacement part. All this slippery slope bullshit is just that...bullshit. Now no one will want to wait for parts, now everyone will expect this, what's next borrowing a motor, something sounds fishy, the sky is falling. You guys sound like a bunch of neurotic 80 year old women. I've had dealers remove small parts off of bikes when they didn't have in stock or when they were expecting a delivery of them on numerous occassions. I've even known a dealer that had a bunch of people wanting parts with huge lead times so they just parted out a new bike to satisfy their customers.

I never said what they did was wrong. It was the owner's choice to make. I have seen where this is going here and it has departed from my intent. I am not a dealer in this brand, as I have already posted.

I have already mentioned that my disillusionment was not justified based on the feedback from the majority of posters here.

Thanks for the input. Over and out.

lol, being blown out of proportions :P

I wouldnt say ever single scenario would warrant a swap, and that in this case it would be a simple swap, and the customer has the cash for it. In this particular case, the guy is stranded. the part in case, is also something not of critical design to eventually wear down (like brake pads. or tires)

Nor is this a machined "custom" item with exacting tolerances for critical fit and function as a whole. (like posted above...much like a headlight bulb.)

in this case everybody wins from the swap.

dealer gets money for part.
stranded motorist is no longer stranded
the (future buyer, who isnt even in the picture) buyer gets a newer (and very possibly improved) part, for the same cost overall.

does not void the warranty, installed by proffesionals, (wow, two bolts and a plug) and a drop in fit.

ALL cases are different, but in this one, the swap would have been a no issue for me.

I showed him 4 insurance cards with 16 high end motorcycles insured in my name, including Desmosedici, 1098R, MV Agusta Tamburini, etc. He said he didn't care who I was or what I owned. I am not arguing with you....just letting you know that I might fit the big money client.....or not, depending on what you call big money. He made his bed.....I have decided to buy the bike I want for next year that he deals in from another dealership.
