As far as being made an example of, that was up to our Commanding Petty Officers judgement, equivalent of a Drill Instructor. When one person goofed up, we all paid for it at as a group . That way he never did the hard work himself. If somebody needed to be put in line or pushed out of our squad, or whatever we called it, the motivated would help him out:eh: . Kind of the one for all and all for one theory, which helps out alot, wether on a huge or small boat, get alot more done when everybody helps, good or bad, the boat was not just the thing we sailed on, but was also the crew itself.
Yeah I had some good memories and headaches from those days, but I am no good example of an advocate. I got out early so I missed out on the G.I. Bill and the Navy College fund, but still am qualified for the Hazlewood Act which actually is pretty darn usefull, if I go back to school and add on to my 6 creds. Long story though it seems every time I type something in any forum it turns into an banter full of an essay.

From what I am seeing, it seems Elemental2 seems a little in a rush. I hope he slows down a bit and takes in a quick breath to think about it a little. He needs some sit-down time with somebody who has been there and must hear the good and the bad of a military obligation. Sign your name on the dotted line and find out that you signed your life over to them later on. Not the best first impressions when you are learning something new.

Good point any of you navy buffs feel like lunch somewhere tomarrow ?? :icon_bigg
If a man is called to be a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause and say, "Here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well..."

Don't take life to seriously; no one gets out alive.
