You might want to do some research before you just pick any job. Recruiters and Job Counselors will tell you anything, so long as you sign up.

I don't know much about the Navy, I've only dealt with a few of them.

have 2 bro-in-laws are lifers, navy. they both like it.
I did 4 years air force. to me the air force offered more places to go.
navy is somewhat limited and lower ranks u WILL have to go onto ships for long period of times. Very LIMITED female action on ships.
What ever u do get your M.O.S or job description in WRITING.
DO NOT go into say Open general, u will get screwed.
Get a Specific job in writing. lots of oportunities and cheap way to see the world. I would recomend everyone to do at least 4 years. Makes u grow up fast.
again my 02

now that you mention that:

elemental2:
if you are in decent shape, let the recruiter know you are interested in joining as an E-2 (higher rank) by taking the Physical Training (PT) Test. If you pass, and you should because it's VERY EASY, you can skip a few months of time and get promoted as soon as you join. You can also make it all the way to E-3 by tricking/coercing a buddy to join with you. Ask the recruiter about it, if he doesn't know... ask his senior about it.

by the way, why the navy?

Not sure about getting nothing out of it. My wife was in for 8 years (ARMY). She got her college paid for, bumped to the top of the RN school applicant list, and has been able to negotiate a higher salary because of it.

She still has all limbs too. Last time I checked anyway.

the military is a great way to go if your not sure of the direction in your life. you;ll get out of it, what you put into it. i will help you become a man. but it won't make you a man.

all good stuff above (except for ownage's BS), but i wholly agree w/ train 460 about getting your MSO in writing.

i think the only way to enter as an officer is to have a degree. i have a cousin who's in annapolis right now. :notworthy

yep!
and he decided he would like to do it for 20 years.
It's good, we joined at 18, so when he's 38.. he can retire!
