You are eligible for DD is you havent completed it in 1 year since the last ticket you completed DD with (so yes) AND if its not in excess of 25mph over the speedlimit (or is it 15? )

To do DD, you have to goto court with ticket, insurance and about $100~ in hand and you sign an agreement stating that you have 6 months (or sometimes 3 depending on the court) to complete the DD and you will return on that date or before to dismiss the case. Sometimes, you have to also provide a TX Drivers Record ($10~ from Austin) to validate that you have not completed DD in the past year.

DD is now offered online (www.defensivedriving.com is based right here in Houston! ), with Blockbuster or in the traditional comedy club or DD school. Its still 8 hours (I think) of required attendance and there is a quiz afterwards that you have to pass. It usually costs about $30-40.

but here is the kicker if u got the ticket on ur bike u have to either take the brc or erc to get the ticket dismissed they will not accept a regular defensive driving course certificate

Exactly. That's what Lanzer was eluding to. It's not as easy as just taking the standard DD anymore.

Pay the ticket or pay the lawyer...

Jheesh.... mine was less then $50 difference in paying or taking DD, not factoring in my time....
