N00b in the dirt!

Hi guys, I would like to experience the joys of dirt bikes.

I am quite experienced in street bikes having done several trackdays in my home country.
I would like now to try something different, many friends switched to dirt bikes from street and never went back so...here i am!

I'd need to get everything, bike, boots, helmets and so on. I would like to stay on a budget, therefore a used 250 would do the job.

Any suggestion where can I find all the gear?

Thanks

welcome!

i have some size 10(us) Thor MX boots. they need a good cleaning, they're a little old but they'll do a good job till you get new ones. If you want them just give me 20 bucks for em.

look up cycle gear, they have locations around houston and you can get your dirt gear/accessories there

Cycle gear has a lot of accessories, but you can find closeout deals on last year's gear for a good price online.
Checkout our sponsors as well.

Hare Scrambles man, Hare Scrambles.
For www.texasxtremeoffroadracing.com, they have races at least once a month throughout the year at different courses; most within 3 hours of Houston.

I just got into dirt bikes as well. I love me some supermoto and dirtiez.

How it works:

Get your bike and gear and go to the track and play all day for $25.00...Races are moved around from different track thru a series. 3 palms extreme motocross park is a sweet place to ride. Love there open track, alos have a river track, gp track, and supercross track.

Highlands is always a fun track. They also have 2 tracks to hone your skills on. Love the outdoor open track as well there too.

Dirt is fun. I could never get into the scramble though, thats just me though. I raced motocross for about 17 yrs and loved the open tracks. No more dirt for me though. Fractured back in 2005 stopped it for me.

Have fun and PIN IT!!!!!!!

Chris

Hare scrambles are what I too enjoy...although I fill my non race weekends with an occasional trip up to 3 palms, Cornerstone MX, or a trip to Huntsville to ride the 75+ miles of public trails they offer. I post up my rides here pretty regularly so keep an eye out for M&G's...I suspect with cooler temps, the National Forest trips will be back in full swing. Welcome to the dark side.

yes! Hare scramble! That's what I am looking for!

I am not attracted too much by motocross, but hare scramble is what I like.

In my home country we have these races that are made of stages long 1-2 hours, like a car rally, in the woods following a trail. This is what I would like to try and from what I have understood it's called hare scramble. Am I right? I hope so.

Now, does the gear differ from motocross?

I also would like first to try it out before I buy all the gear/bike. Is there any place where I could do this?
Thanks for the replies

Yes, you are correct. The series that most of us MH members are running is located in the link Navijab provided above. They have specific classes for one hour racers, two hour racers, etc. MOST events are 2-3 hours from Houston, some closer (Columbus area, Beaumont, Middleton, Centerville, Sam Rayburn, Zars Ranch-San Antonio, etc.)

The gear does not differ much....helmet, gloves, chest protector, Leatt (neck) brace is optional, knee/shin guards, and boots. May wanna look into a Camel Bak as well.

Not sure where you could try the gear and bikes though....no one I know rents them or loans them out.

This months race happens this weekend @ Lake Sam Rayburn....see thread here:

http://www.motohouston.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=156368

If you would like to come spectate or ride (hurry get on CL, pick up a bike and hit up Cycle Gear for your gear ) I have room in my truck for one more....

I picked up some leftover 2010 gear from Cycle Gear last night on the cheap. $65 for Oneal pants and jersey.

ahahah jumping in a race right the way might not be the smartest thing.
That's why I would do it!

Unfortunately I have some other plans for the weekend. But I am free for the next one!
